Abstract
In her July 2025 interview with Edwin Elizabeth Thomas, Samantha Schalk discusses her career as a professor in UW-Madison’s Gender & Women’s Studies (GWS) Department, which she joined in 2017. She recalls her initial interest in the field sparked by taking a women’s studies class as a sophomore in college. Schalk also touches on how UW-Madison’s GWS department has become more diverse throughout her time, both in terms of faculty composition and viewpoints. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the GWS @ 50 Oral History Project of the UW-Madison Archives & Records Management oral history collection.
