Abstract

4,4'-Isopropylidenediphenol [4,4'-(1-methylethylidene)bis phenol; 2,2'­ bis(4-hydroxyphenyl} propane; diphenylolpropane] is a solid which is moderately soluble in water. It is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of polymers, antioxidants and dyes. 4,4'-Isopropylidene­ diphenol most likely enters the aquatic environment in effluents from industries where it is manufactured and used, or in chemical spills.
