Abstract

Benzal chloride [(dichloromethyl)benzene] is a colorless liquid with an aromatic odor. It is used in the production of other chemicals, with the largest use being benzaldehyde production. It is moderately soluble in water, and may enter the aquatic environment via effluents from chemical plants where it is manufactured or used, and spills.
