    Abstract
Dibutyl ester phthalic acid (n-butyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate, DBP) is one of several phthalic acid esters produced commercially.· The major use for this phthalic acid ester is as an insect repellant for the impregnation of clothing. DBP enters the aquatic environment in discharges from industrial processes and in non-point discharges from the wide and general use of this chemical. DBP is highly soluble in water.
