Abstract

Diethylester phthalic acid (diethyl phthalate) is a manufactured chemical. It is used as a solvent for cellulose acetate in manufacturing varnishes and dopes, as a fixative for perfumes and in denaturing alcohol. Diethylester phthalic acid enters the aquatic environment in effluents from manufacturing processes and municipalities. Diethylester phthalic acid is slightly soluble in water.
