Abstract

1,2-Dibromo-3-chloropropane (DBCP) is a brown liquid with a pungent odor. It is used as a soil fumigant and nematocide. It is highly soluble in water, and may enter the aquatic environment via discharges from chemical manufacturing plants, spills, and agricultural soil runoff or leachate.
