    Abstract
Quinoline (benzo[b]pyridine) is a colorless, hygroscopic liquid with a penetrating pungent odor. It is used in the manufacture of dyes, medicinal drugs, catalysts, ion-exchange polymers, herbicides, insecticides, corrosion inhibitors, antioxidants, and metallurgical chemicals; as a preservative for anatomical specimens, and as a solvent for resins and terpeJleS. It is highly soluble in water, and may enter the aquatic environment via effluents from chemical industries where it is manufactured or used, and spills.
