Abstract

Pentachloronitrobenzene (quintozene; PCNB; terrachlor; PKhNB; Avicol; Botrilex; Brassicol; Folosan; Terraclor; Tilcarex; Tritisan) is a crystalline solid which is slightly soluble in water. PCNB is used as a fungicide for the treatment of soil and seeds. PCNB most likely enters the aqua.tic environment in the effluents from industries where it is manufactured, with runoff from agricultural lands or from spills.
