The purpose of this study was to investigate the underlying sources of fleet-based risk
that may be present within Oconomowoc Public Utilities. It was intended to review the
accident records of Oconomowoc Public Utilities in addition to all current
policies/procedures currently adhered to by the organization. Research was performed to
assist in the development of a checklist that describes the best practices/legal
requirements that the organization was encouraged to possess. Based on the results of the
checklist, recommendations were developed to assist in the reduction of the overall risks
which are present within the organization due to the current policies/procedures in place.
Included in the recommendations presented to Oconomowoc Public Utilities is the
establishment of a near miss reporting system to assist the organization in the
determination of areas of improvement. The development of a safety committee to
identify the root causes of each accident and develop solutions to resolve the issues was
also a recommendation presented to the organization.
