The goal of this project is to determine if the I & C technicians at XYZ company’s Planke Road
power plant require training and to gather information to begin putting together a training plan.
We took a look at some of the problems in employee staffing and upcoming retirements that
indicate a large turnover in personnel in the near future. A review of causes leading to where the
industry currently is and a look at training and evaluation to show the benefit derived from
developing and retaining personnel within your own organization and the ability to retain the
specific knowledge of your business and systems as they progress. The use of a survey to
determine training need was explained, along with the method of delivery and recovery of the
survey forms. The results of the survey were presented which utilized the averages of the
answers for 1) difficulty, 2) frequency, and 3) importance of the tasks listed and showed how
those averages related to a need for training. These items are then followed up with
recommendations for XYZ Company’s Planke Road Power Plant Instrumentation and Control
technicians based on the responses from the survey.
