This study examined the truck teardown process of T-Alan Truck Company to get an
overall view of the process flow and all its’ components to determine where
improvements can be made in terms of safety, quality, productively, cost, and delivery.
Areas studied include lean manufacturing techniques, planning and scheduling, takt time
and line balancing, tooling and fixturing, cost control, quality control systems, and the
use of appropriate key performance indicators for measuring and monitoring the process.
Operations management and supply strategies were also analyzed to consider efficient
use of manpower, material movement within the plant, part storage and tracking, and
material flow in the yard in terms of scrap removal, and delivery to the customer. The
truck teardown methods were also evaluated to see what safety procedures were in place
to ensure that they are satisfactory to match the unique requirements of truck teardown.
