    Abstract
The number of high school non-completers is a continuing issue in the United States. Students who drop out of high school are often challenged with lives of instability and insecurity. In general, students who dropout often struggle finding jobs, having good health, and experiencing poverty. There are various reasons high school students drop out and to understand those factors is critical to developing proactive strategies. Looking at the backgrounds of non-completers may help explain why students choose quit or were forced to drop out. Some minority students tend to struggle in school, which may also lead to potential dropouts. It is important to consider how poverty can impact families and how it affects students. Unfortunately, students who come from families of poverty are at greater risk for becoming non-completers.
