Burnett County’s Shoreland Incentive Program: 25 Years of Protection
Abstract
"In 1999, Burnett County passed a series of shoreland zoning changes to protect the water quality of lakes in Burnett County. One of those changes was to create a program to reward people for following shoreland zoning vegetation requirements to protect water quality. Long-term protection is ensured with a covenant registered with the deed. You will see how the program has worked, lessons that have been learned, and the impressive results of 25 years of protection.
