    Abstract
This study aims to provide a corpus-based analysis of en plan (de) in peninsular Spanish from its origins to the present-day. The development of the original nominal function of plan until its current use in the formula en plan (de) (in both its adverbial and discursive function) clearly illustrates how grammaticalization works. However, such a process is not yet complete. This thesis deals with different aspects which may contribute to a better understanding of this process, such as the presence of intervening material between the elements of the formula, or the combination of en plan (de) with different syntactic forms. Likewise, the frequency of this formula in three different text-types is taken into consideration: fiction, non-fiction, and oral production.
