dc.description.abstractThe Milwaukee Public Schools Head Start Community Assessment identifies the community conditions and trends that impact the Head Start programs, participating families and children, and potential enrollees. The assessment details the demographics of the family and child populations, birth trends, health needs, housing trends, employment changes, public safety concerns, transportation needs, and child care services in the neighborhoods with Head Start programs. This report prepared by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Employment and Training Institute (UWM-ETI) includes analysis of annual birth data, health, housing and social service records and administrative files from the Milwaukee health, police and assessor’s departments; county sheriff’s office; state departments of Children and Families, Corrections, Health Services, Revenue and Transportation; circuit courts, and federal Home Mortgage Act Disclosure housing files, along with indepth reviews of U.S. Census data and American Community Survey (ACS) tabulations.
