The primary goal of our project is to identify non-clinical long-term care (LTC) leadership or management career options. We are creating a series of profiles of these careers to showcase the many jobs and pathways that were taken to said jobs. For young people entering long-term care administration, having a better understanding of LTC management/leadership career options and the pathways people have taken to get there are especially important in this profession, which is likely to face significant demand given our rapidly aging population. In this project, 34 administrative residency (internship) students in the health care administration (HCAD) major will collect information to compile three distinct leadership profiles. Two student research assistants and two faculty researchers will review the profiles and will use the information collected to create an electronic resource of identified careers. The electronic resource will be utilized by students throughout the HCAD program and potentially beyond. Although the project is a work in progress, we anticipate the electronic resource/book will provide the opportunity for students to read through our electronic resources to find and research pathways that sound intriguing to them. All these careers are direct pathways that can be taken directly after graduation.
