The Effects of Physical Activity Prior to the Morning Work Period
Abstract
This study was designed to examine the effects of physical activity before the morning work period in a Montessori classroom. The study aimed to explore Maria Montessori's concept of the whole child, with a specific focus on the emotional and social development of children as they enter the third plane of development. The study sought to determine whether the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity would yield positive behavioral effects on students and enhance their academic performance. It adopted a holistic, child-centered approach that aligns with Maria Montessori's concept of the child. The study was intended to investigate the development of self-concept and assess the impact of increased physical activity on emotional and cognitive development.
Unfortunately, this study did not come to fruition due to circumstances beyond the author's control. This paper encompasses three case studies, anecdotal evidence, research questions, the study's design, all the instruments used, and a description of the intervention. It also addresses potential limitations that would need to be considered if the study were to be conducted in the future.
