Over the last few years, the COVID-19 pandemic shifted the work environment forcing many organizations to adhere to mandatory remote work protocols. With minimal notice, resources, and expectations of the future, most organizations did not fully understand the impacts remote work would have on the workforce. As the world is recovering from the pandemic, organizations are faced with new challenges and inadequate knowledge on how to maintain employee engagement in the remote workforce causing a significant increase in turnover. This research investigates how remote work impacts the experience a new hire receives during the onboarding process. By collecting feedback from employees hired remotely, the researcher was able to identify practices and challenges that were impactful to the onboarding process. Based on the data and feedback, organizations may benefit from changes to the onboarding process to increase employee satisfaction and, ultimately, retention.
