    Abstract
In 2023 the idea of the Employee Journey, an expanded version of the employee life cycle, became a hot topic for Human Resources teams focused on increasing retention and enhancing employee experiences. Both reducing turnover and enhancing experiences also became a focus of Company XYZ, and their Human Resources team was charged with understanding what opportunities existed in the employment journeys that their employees were experiencing. Through interviews with a small population of the organization, this study found that direct managers have the greatest impact on the employment journeys employees experience. Thus, the focus of efforts to make employee experiences more positive and increase retention should be on meeting the needs of managers, supporting them in the management of their teams, and providing resources to ensure they are able to listen to and take action on any issues raised by their employees.
