Objective
This study explored the accessibility of ONE and identified environmental determinants of use among Hispanic/Latinx WIC participants.
Design
Guided by the Social Cognitive Theory, this qualitative research involved conducting interviews with Hispanic/Latinx WIC participants and analysis with open coding methods.
Setting
Interviews with participants from rural Wisconsin were completed via Microsoft Teams.
Participants
Participants who identified as Hispanic/Latinx and interacted with the ONE tool during their WIC experience completed an interview after meeting inclusion criteria.
Phenomenon of Interest
Participant perceptions on ONE’s accessibility and environmental determinants of use.
Analysis
Interview responses were coded individually and collaboratively among researchers. Responses were categorized and themes were identified until data saturation was reached.
Results
ONE was relatively accessible among participants (n = 12). Four themes were identified: use of technology, familiarity with ONE, environmental determinants, and cultural alignment.
Conclusions and Implications
ONE was a favored method of nutrition education among participants, thus supporting the continued use of online nutrition education platforms in the future. This research supports that cultural, environmental, and personal factors influence the use of this platform; therefore, continued research on strategies to increase the use and acceptability of online education tools through a cultural lens is recommended.
