Abstract
In this 2003 interview, Dr. Charles Lobeck details his life, education, and career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Taking place between the 1940s and the present day 2003, Dr. Charles Lobeck discusses the topics of his childhood in Geneva, NY, his military service, medical school at University of Rochester, his internship at Newhaven Hospital and residency in pediatrics at University of Rochester. He also talks about his appointment to UW-Madison medical school under William S. Middleton, Nathan Smith, and John Z. Bowers. He describes his chairmanship of the pediatrics department, research on cystic fibrosis, deanship of University of Missouri Medical School, associate deanship for academic affairs of UW Medical School, and neonatal intensive care in Madison. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the UW-Madison Archives & Records Management oral history collection.
