Special education mathematics curriculum does not address the common core standards
as the general education curriculum does; therefore special education students receiving
pull out mathematics instruction are performing poorly on standardized assessments.
Participants in this study included a total of 13 seventh and eighth-grade students (2 girls,
11 boys) with learning disabilities receiving pull out mathematics instruction, in a rural
Wisconsin village. During a 3-month study, participants received instruction using the
general education mathematics curriculum. All students took a pretest and post-test to
compare improvements made and to determine the success of the general education
mathematics curriculum. Data was compared to of 10 general education peers using the
same curriculum.
