THE APOSTLE ISLANDS: CONCENTRATION AREA FOR MIGRATORY BIRDS IN SPRING
Abstract
The behavior of land bird migrants in the Apostle Islands was studied to determine the significance
of these islands as stopover locations and to outline how Lake Superior affects migration patterns. Field observations extended from late April until early June of 1976 and 1977, with most data collected from Outer Island. In 1977, Stockton, Devil's and Michigan Islands also were visited. Results apply only to migrants flying low enough ·to be visible from the ground.
