The existing chiller system at Company XYZ’s ice arena is failing mechanically and leaking refrigerant. Amid operating with banned refrigerant and rising maintenance expenses, a replacement chiller is the number one priority in the survival of the ice arena. The average layperson cannot simply identify a suitable replacement chiller. Thus, in-depth research and analysis in this study will assist the board members at Company XYZ to make an informed decision in replacement options. The existing chiller system along with three alternates were chosen for examination because of not only the compatibility with Company XYZ’s ice arena, but the differing attributes in investment, efficiency, and sustainability. Categories in environmental hazards, personnel safety, energy efficiency, cooling capacity, required maintenance, longevity, return on investment, and year-round use have been included for analysis, comparison, and rating of each chiller. The information gathered will provide Company XYZ appropriate facts to make a clear decision for resolving the issues.
