Abstract
Stanlie James is currently serving as the Director of the African and African American Studies Program at Arizona State University, where she holds a joint appointment with the Women's Studies Program. Her research and teaching focuses on black feminism and international human rights. During her time at Madison James was the first to hold joint appointment in the Afro-American studies program as well as the Gender and Women Studies program. She introduced courses such as Black Feminisms.
James earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in international studies from the University of Denver with concentrations in human rights, comparative politics, and Africa. She also holds an M.A. in modern British colonial West African history, religions of Sub-Sahara Africa, and social change in Sub-Sahara Africa from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London
