In the story collected by Kayla Bell with Malika Ziebarth, formally Malika McCormick, Malika shares her experience from her time as a Wisconsin women rower during the years of 2001 through 2005 as part of the oral history collection for the UW Madison Archives project, “50 Years of Wisconsin Women’s Rowing: A Look Back.” Her story includes an in-depth recount of the many coaches her year saw, touching specifically on the impact of Nicole Borges, before continuing on to discuss the determination and strength of her team. From there, she expands on the sorts of practices her and her teammates endured, the conditions they withstood, and, even, what the experience of rowing out of a “circus tent” was like during the rebuilding of UW-Madison’s Porter Boathouse. Additionally, Malika touches on the importance of what once being a Wisconsin Women rower now means to her today and narrates her experience from the Wisconsin Women’s Rowing 50th Anniversary Celebration and what it meant to her.en_US
