Abstract
David Tarr talks about his childhood, his undergraduate education at the University of Massachusetts–Amherst, his army career, his graduate education at the University of Chicago, and Quincy Wright. He talks about teaching at Mt. Holyoke and Amherst, his views on and work in behavioralism, work for the Legislative Reference Service, and Roger Hilsman. He talks about his appointment to Wisconsin, controversy surrounding the Vietnam War, his stance on grade inflation, the international relations field in the department, Stephen Kleene, and experience as department chair. He talks about his graduate students, his time on the Athletic Board and other committees, and reflections on the political science department.
