Toxicity of Silver to the Fathead Minnow and an Invertebrate in Aged Toxicant Solutions with Laboratory Water and St. Louis River Water
Abstract
Acute toxicity tests with silver nitrate (AgN03) were conducted with two species of test organisms. The fathead minnow, Pimephales promelas Rafinesque, and a cladoceran, Daphnia magna, were used to determine the effects of silver toxicity in differing test waters. Two water sources were used in these studies - standard laboratory test water which was collected from the LSRI toxicity test laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-Superior and St Louis River water collected from a location near the Village of Oliver, WI, at the Wisconsin State Highway 105 bridge. Simultaneous 96-h fathead minnow and 48-h Daphnia magna, static exposures were conducted with these two test waters.
