    Abstract
In her 2012 interview with Laura Lane, Erika Janik narrates her journey to a career in writing. She remembers her early education and undergraduate studies in Oregon, which led her to study history, then journalism at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Beyond graduate school, her time in Madison included working for the Wisconsin Historical Society, an internship with the Wisconsin State Journal, and freelance writing. Since graduating with a Masters in journalism, wide-ranging passions as well as various aspects of her education and work have inspired and enabled her to write A Short History of Wisconsin, Odd Wisconsin, Madison: A Model City, and Apple: A Global History. Janik ends with a discussion of upcoming projects in addition to her thoughts about Madison.
