Oral History Interview, Phil Hamilton (1407)
Abstract
In his three 2014 interviews with Troy Reeves, Phil Hamilton talked about his years on the UW (later called UW-Madison) campus. Hamilton talked about building a design program inside the Department of Art, moving into the Humanities Building, helping build a unified design and logo for campus, and his 1970s-1990s design work for both UW-Madison and outside entities. This oral history covers the time period of the 1960s through the 2000s and the following topics: Department of Art, UW logo (1960s), Vietnam Era on Campus, Mosse Humanities Building, UW-Madison logo (1970s), Hamilton’s graphic design work, his home studio at Deer Run (Cross Plains, WI), Art Hove, and the UW-Madison collaborative class, called Design: Making Things Work. It was conducted for inclusion into the UW-Madison Oral History Program.
