The occurrence of overtime in the construction industry may be considered prominent and potentiallyincrease the risk of employee injuries and illnesses. The purpose of this study was to analyze the work injuries as well as worker scheduling practices at Company XYZ. Data was collected on all employe injury-based incidents within Company XYZ for calendar years 2011 through 2015. Information regarding the number of overtime-based working hours was collected and analyzed in conjunction with the occurrence of reported employee injuries. The company’s internal policiesand procedures were also obtained andreviewed in order to determine the extent that a concerted effort was made to control the extent of overtime that the associated employees may work.Company XYZ experincedminimal injuries between the time period of 2011 through2015, although it was found that injuries did occur when employees were working overtime. While it was concluded that Company XYZ strives to provide a safe work place forthe employees through training, hazard recognition, and new employee orientation practices, the organizationdoes not specifically have an overtime work policy and thus should investigate the development of such in order to help prevent further employee overtime injury-related events.
