The main purpose of this study was to provide basic insight into the most widely used officer field training programs. The study looked at the current generational differences and learning styles of field training officers and field trainees when using the San Jose and Reno models in County XYZ. The study attempted to determine if the teaching style of Generation X trainers is consistent and on task with the learning style of the Millennial Generation and beyond. The methods for data collection consisted of a 17-question interview for field training officers and 15 interview questions for field trainees in County XYZ. Additional field training officers and field trainees completed a 13-question survey. Analysis was based on the data collected through the interview and survey process results. The outcome of the data suggested there was an issue with communication at all levels of the organization when it comes to the field training program and feedback. Another result indicated the field training officers were not taking the learning styles of the younger generations into account during the training program. Recommendations for changes to the field officer training in County XYZ were proposed.
