Orazio Fumagalli was born in Italy in 1921. As a child, his family emigrated to New York City where he grew up. During World War II, he served in the coast guard. Following the war, he studied art at the University of Iowa and in Italy. In 1954, Fumagalli began work at the Tweed Gallery in Duluth.
