    Description
Psychology has always played an important role in education at Stout. L.D. Harvey, the first president of this institution, was an instructor in psychology. The formation of the psychology major had its beginnings with the Graduate School. As the Masters program expanded in the 1940s and 1950s more guidance programs were offered. This led to a concentration in vocational education in guidance. This, in turn, gave the impetus for the creation of an undergraduate major in guidance and counseling in 1961.
