dc.descriptionMerle M. Price was born May 4, 1901, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Price attended elementary and secondary schools in Minneapolis and graduated from Central High School in 1901. He then attended State Teacher's College at St. Cloud and received his diploma in June 1921. He taught in the public schools of Gonvick and Park Rapids, Minnesota and returned to the University of Minnesota and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1924. Following this he became the principal at the high school in Grand Marais and, in 1926, again returned to the University of Minnesota. He served as a teaching assistant and Administrative Fellow at the University and received his Master of Arts Degree in 1929. In the fall of 1929, he joined the faculty of the Stout Institute as a teacher of History, English Composition, and the university's first Dean of Men. During the forty-two years that followed in his tenure at UW-Stout, he made a lasting impression on the university. His most notable contribution would be as the Dean of Men and later Dean of Students. During these years he served as the advisor to the Student Governments in Wisconsin State College System.en_US
