Learning Resources was established in 1970 with David P. Barnard as the first Dean (reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs). Barnard was given responsibility for the library and audio-visual center with the intention of combining of combining and integrating services. By 1976, Learning Resources had expanded to include the university library, Instructional Technology Services, Academic Computer Center, Tele-production Center, and Media Technology Department -- making it one of the first university integrated media service organizations in the nation. The Media Technology Department became the responsibility of the school of Industry and Technology in 1987. Also, in 1987, Dean Barnard retired, and Harry Herbert was appointed new Dean of the unit. In 1988, coordination of telecommunication activities on campus became the responsibility of the unit and the name was changed to Learning Resources and Tele-communications. Two years later, Dean Herbert retired, and no further Deans were appointed. Most of the responsibilities of the Learning Resources then fell under the leadership of the associate Vice Chancellor.en_US
