dc.description.sponsorshipJohn A. Jarvis was a faculty member at Stout for 27 years until his retirement in 1973. Dr. Jarvis began his professional career as a junior high school industrial arts and mathematics teacher in Flint, Michigan. He also taught mathematics and pattern making at the Flint Technical High School. During World War II he was supervisor of instruction in the Tank Department of the Armored Force Schools at Fort Knox. Jarvis began his professional career in higher education at Stout where he held the titles of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Dean of the School of Industrial Education, Dean of Instruction, and Acting President of Stout. Jarvis was also president of the American Vocational Association (1963-1964). Jarvis received degrees from Stout (B.S., 1936), Wayne State University (Masters, 1941), and the University of Minnesota (PhD, 1953). Dr. Jarvis died October 5, 1984.en_US
