Description
Donald Clausen was born in Mankato, Minnesota on April 11, 1915. He undertook undergraduate work at both Mankato State College and the University of Minnesota but did not receive a baccalaureate degree as he entered into graduate school from the sophomore level. He received his Master of Science degree in 1950 and his PhD. in 1955 from the University of Minnesota where he majored in biochemistry, minored in physiology and had a strong background in analytical chemistry.
Dr. Clausen joined the Chemistry Department at Stout in the fall of 1964. He taught the first courses offered at Stout in inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, textile chemistry, and food chemistry. Dr. Clausen also initiated an experimental course in introductory chemistry with a project orientation. From approximately 1972-1976, Dr. Clausen served as the Chair of the Chemistry Department. Dr. Clausen retired in June of 1980.
