Description
Originally a woman’s organization, the Stout Symphonic Singers was organized by Harold Cooke in the fall of 1937. The group was a vocal organization accompanied by an orchestra and a string ensemble. Under Cooke’s leadership, the group made a number of national appearances including: 1937 tour to Indianapolis, Indiana; 1939 tour to Baltimore and Washington, D.C., where they sang for First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and sang in the rotunda of the Senate Building; 1940 New York World’s Fair; 1941-1944 toured Wisconsin and northern Illinois singing for individuals in military service.
