Description
This thesis consists of 2 papers providing information
collected while studying wild turkeys recently transplanted
to Portage and Shawano counties in central Wisconsin.
"Winter habitat use by wild turkeys in east central
Wisconsin" is a comparison of winter habitats used by
turkeys in Shawano and Portage counties in east central
Wisconsin. This paper includes factors affecting forage
within these winter habitats and management recommendations
for establishing future turkey populations beyond their
historic range. The document is written in the format
required by "The Wildlife Society Bulletin" to which it will
be submitted for publication.
"Movement and mortality of transplanted wild turkeys in
east central Wisconsin" is a comparison of turkey movement
relative to the release site and an evaluation of the
introductions within the 2 different counties. This paper
is written in the format required by "The Journal of
Wildlife Management" and will be submitted to the Passenger
Pigeon for Publication.
