In his January 1987 interviews with Laura Smail, Art Hove discussed the inner workings of the University of Wisconsin?s administration during his four decades of service there from the 1960s to the 1990s. After providing some background to his work at UW, he discussed in detail the relationship between several actors in the administration of Madison and the UW-System, including Cyrena Pondrom, Edwin Young, Bryant Kearl, Irving Shain, and Robert O'Neil, as well as UW's relationship with the state of Wisconsin. He explained some of the implications of the 1973 merger of the UW and WSU campuses into a single system, as well as how it was influenced by the wider contexts of higher education in the 1970s and beyond. This interview was conducted for inclusion in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Archives Oral History Project.
In his 2002-2003 interview with Barry Teicher, Arthur Hove shared extensively about his experiences in Chicago and Madison WI, concentrating especially on his five decades of engagement with the University of Wisconsin Madison. After discussing his childhood and early influences, he discussed his work with the Wisconsin Alumni Association as the editor of the Wisconsin Alumnus magazine. In subsequent sessions, Hove recounts his move first to the UW System administration and then to the chancellor's office in his capacity as special assistant working with the Vietnam protest movement, student power movement, minority issues, public affairs, the campus building plan, computing on campus, Merger, the arts consortium, commencement ceremonies and product licensing. Throughout, Hove shares his perspectives on major UW personalities, including chancellors, vice chancellors, and deans, as well as a number of major topics such as the 1973 Merger, the 1960s, societal trends in the US, the growth of the university, UW Alumni, athletics, administrative styles. This interview was conducted for inclusion in the UW-Madison Archive Oral History Project.
