    Abstract
The purpose of this study was to synthesize multidentate ligands and exploit their ability to coordinate early and late transition metals, develop transition metal catalysts for olefin polymerization, including the oligomerization of ethylene to high purity alpha-olefins, develop new ligands and metal complexes for the selective oligomerization of ethylene (1-hexene, 1-octene), and examine the impact of ligand structure (denticity, number and position of substituents, etc.) on catalyst performance.
