| dc.description | Abstract: In his five Fall 2012 interviews (October through December) with Troy Reeves, Kenneth Shapiro talked about his career, including graduate school at Stanford, his first job at University of Michigan, and his nearly thirty year career at UW-Madison. He furnished memories from the following decades: 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s and the following topics: New York City; Cornell University; Stanford University; Tanzania; University of Michigan; UW-Madison's College of Agriculture & Life Science (CALS); UW-Madison's Agricultural and Applied Economics Department; and UW-Madison's CALS' International Programs. Shapiro work for CALS International Program led him to win grants and oversee projects both on campus and throughout the world, including countries in Africa and Asia and Study Aboard programs in Asia, Africa, and Europe. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the UW-Madison Oral History Program. In his June 2013 interview with Jim Delahanty, Kenneth Shapiro talked about his experiences doing doctoral research in Tanzania, teaching at the University of Michigan and working in international studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1983 to 2011. He expressed his opinions about research methods in Africa, grant-writing, the tenure process, and the direction of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
