- In their interview with Kara Bissen, Amy Deml and Jai Johnson detail the LGBTQ community in La Crosse. Jai, coming from a small town, addresses her coming out experience when she came to UW La Crosse in 1977, her political career as the first out lesbian on the city and county board, and the changes and growth she has seen over time. Amy, living in the La Crosse area for seventeen years talks about her experiences with numerous family members that she has in the town, her first experiences within the La Crosse LGBTQ community, and what she has seen throughout the years and hopes to see come. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the UW-Madison Oral History Program.
