    Abstract
The public's view of American foreign policy is informed by a number of factors, including its views on religions and America's place in the world. This paper will examine the letters to the editor generated by a controversy surrounding a minister's criticism of the Korean War in Madison, Wisconsin in 1950. Though this author does not claim to survey the full scope of public opinion regarding the Korean War, by illuminating the opinions of nineteen individuals, this author hopes to shed light on how Americans viewed themselves and the world in 1950.
