    Abstract
It has long been believed that the heterocycle ring of a naphthalimide dye was resistant to nucleophilic attach. However, our research has shown that reacting N-aryl-4-sustituted-1,8-naphthalimides with nucleophic primary amimes has resulted in addition to the heterocyclic ring with loss of the aromatic amine to give an apparent net substitution at the nitrogen atom.
