The purpose of this paper is to explore the effectiveness of the current self-assessment used in the Master of Science in Training & Development program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. This study will examine whether the current self-assessment used in the MSTD program at UW-Stout is an effective measure of student learning. The study will look at self-assessments, consider other forms of informal assessment, and examine past Assessment in the Major Reports to critique the current self-assessment being used. The conclusion of this report will examine trends in the Assessment in the Major Reports, an assessment of the current self-assessment and suggestions for changes and/or improvements to assess student learning in the MSTD program. The significance and benefit of this study is that results will provide suggestions for better assessment of learning, which can help determine if changes need to be made in the program to better serve the adult students. The study will provide alternatives and improvements to the current self-assessment method used to measure student learning in the MSTD program. Ultimately student learning will be measurable as a way to ensure a solid education.
