    Abstract
The objective was to design a less expensive package for XYZ Company's benches. The new design would reduce the packaging assemble time, use fewer materials, and save storage space for the inventory. By fitting four benches into a package instead of two, this objective would be achieved. During testing, the four benches were held in place by two molded pulp inlays. The newly designed package maintained the appropriate amount of protective performance. The packaging materials savings was $5.40 per package. The new packaging process for the benches save XYZ Company .59 cents per package. The labor and material savings of each new package was $7.53. By having the new package hold more benches, optimal inventory levels of package material was reduced. The order quantity of packaging materials was lowered and fewer orders a year were made.
