    Abstract
    The travesti are a particular type of cross-gender people that is prevalent in all the major Brazilian cities, quite different from both transgendered people and transvestites in the United States. This project looks at who they are, how prevalent they are, their societal status, and how they compare to non-binary gender behavior in other cultures.
