How Can I?

How can I sit next to you and not tell you?                                Photo By: Joshua Hein

That I want you

That every time you look at me

I smile a little more

That every time I think of you

That long lost tingle returns.

How can I sit next to you and not tell you?

That life is a little better

With you in it.

That words, which are

so natural to me are lost

And that I can’t look you in the face

For fear of giving it all away.

How can I sit next to you and not tell you?

That every time you grace my hand

I shiver

And must tell my heart to slow its pace

For fear it should leap from my chest

To join yours.

How can I sit next to you and not tell you?

That I love you

When the man I’m sworn to

Is sitting at my other hand.
